What else can be more interesting then ‘sitting on katta’ ? It is a platform where dictionary of numerous colloquial phrases is made. The only business here is ‘no business’. If you bunk a lecture, you miss a boring self-obsessed story of a most anguished creature on the earth; but if you miss a moment on a katta then you get an embarrassment of not understanding the same joke for weeks. These days Mafia is an in-thing for everyone of us. Though second years claim it to be their innovation but third years being more intelligent and pro-active are trying to be pro at this too !! This makes Aarohi and it’s katta so unique. The sense of belonging to each other and to the event, appears to be the never-ending affection which sometimes turns into a fondness for pranks.

It is so ridiculous that I had a fight with ‘kurje’ on some crap budget few months ago on Katta and now, he asks me for reimbursement of Rs. 200. What happens for what reasons and how, is of no concern here, it just happens. Just happens, like the love of ‘lanje’ and the advices of ‘bhoyar’. ‘pathak’ seems to be in need of hourly dosage of Red Bull but with ‘rabde’ explaining it as the bull which ‘joshi’ saw, swallows the whole footage of ‘shah’s’ aristocratic foppery. While all discussions are pacing-up, a moron ‘to-be-college-g-sec, the **** chabao Animesh’ comes in with a deadly story. ‘jichkar’ with his ever-smiling face is busy in salsa but why ‘adarsh aka federer’ is so busy in keeping an eye over all the participants. Computer Science boys under the leadership of ‘vibhor’ and business-ship of ‘peshne’ keep categorizing things according to chomsky. For them, deshpande, nihit, harshad, every problem is a problem is a problem which is reflected on their faces while exams. Most dedicated are the metallurgy students, they study and work quite sincerely. ‘dhodapkar’ has got two innate talents – to get crushed on every second girl and manage to get a good score from a particular prof after screwing the mid-semester exams. ‘Presi’ would make a banner of his marriage also with ‘babboo’ as his fierce competitor to score just one more mark. I wanted to write about girls but I hardly know any, except samhita, rujuta and nikita. So what there is one more boy, ‘apna chahande’, COLLEGEKHABAR.COM, who also know just one girl but she doesn’t know him.

If I keep writing, I may breach the privilege of being a part of katta gatherings. I must leave something to know for those who abstain to join us or just consider it tp. Yes, it is indeed tp but it is not time pass, it is ‘towards the prowess’. From the intricate IC details to the complexed diplomatic matters are discussed and shown the verge of conclusion with three eternal words “hao na bey!!”

For every batch katta is a binding thread. We all owe something to Katta, to Aarohi. Fervour can be sensed in the atmosphere with Aarohi approaching in the next week itself.

Let’s get ready because this time again, few of our friends would leave us so we must make this Aarohi memorable for them and special for us, as it already is.

Dim sunlight, mounted energy, extravagant enthusiasm and a crowd that couldn’t fit a panorama click. That was the first and lasting memories I have of the first Aarohi I ever witnessed, Aarohi 2009. The best I could do was just try to be mentally-present when the glory was constantly pulling my senses towards them from each and every direction. Very little did I know then that He had already written and signed an “MOU” (as i recall) with this 220 acre land piece…

Time flew as it always does, taking me closer to this very day. Seconds became minutes, then hours, then days and months and years and I was brought in person with VNIT, a college that has the flair for never letting anyone go away once entered. They say man invented language so that he could communicate his feelings. I say, man did a poor job. The “Aarohi 2012″ experience has been so beautiful so far that there are no words which exist. Still almost a decennium of days to go for the grand opening and it is already fulfilling.

Doctors said “7.5 hours sleep is must to perform our best”. I say, doctors did a poor job too. 6 am to 10 pm are defined working hours. Then there is a lot of homework and a hoard of infinite more things that demand 100% attention and energy. The Aarohi team at VNIT can work for 20 hours a day easily and still act as fresh as anyone and that is what I think best defines Aarohi. It’s an intoxication, you can’t get rid of it once you know what it all means, how much it matters. Don’t believe me? I usually wake up at 8 in morning and ever since Aarohi work has started, I wake up at 5.30, before the alarm rings, return home at 10 and sleep at around 11.30 and I could do this for the rest of my life EVERYDAY.

Meeting new people, interacting with the seniors (I envy each and every one of them so so so much), learning to not be afraid to get hands dirty and to maintain a poise when it matters is just the crust of what I have experienced. It’s impossible to get to the core, because as I said, English isn’t the tool I could use. The countdown is set, the throttle has been tensioned and the gala is round the corner. So proud to make the decision to be a part of this family, Aarohi family. Hoping to stay in this family for a lifetime…

Aarohi… Well, what can I say… Being a first year, my journey has just begun. As they say, ‘A journey of thousand miles starts with a single step.’ The first time I came into this huge campus was for some competition in Axis way back in 2008. Since then it has been a kind-of association with VNIT, Axis and Aarohi! Life has come a full circle for me. If you seriously and truly hope for something, the universe will conspire to do that for you! To all the non-marathi people ‘drushtikon’ is perspective! A few seniors will understand why the word was specifically used!

Aarohi was one of the reason why I came to VNIT. Just wanted to experience it, what is it, be a part of it. Aarohi is a legend which has been told to every coming first year since last 23 years! It’s a legend and it is growing, bigger and better! The journey till now has been enriching though short. Aarohi is about celebrating friendship, celebrating life.

The first semester went in a flurry! Proudly, saying 12.5% engineer! But it’s still a long way to go! Coming to VNIT, there’s more pride in saying 100 % Aarohian, who cares about engineering!‘Pagle, pass to ho hi jayenge. Semester 8 baar aata hain, par Aarohi bas 4 baar.’ Sitting and guessing the name of seniors, their branch and other details, learning the events and their rules, going to some firms you haven’t even known in your lifetime – to ask for sponsorship, selling tickets a.k.a ‘donation passes’ to someone you don’t even know but you do it for a noble cause! It’s just about enjoying many things like these! The moments are something to cherish.

Our batch came late, due to some reasons. I am sure, we missed so many ‘fun’ things as many seniors say! As a true Aarohian will always say – ‘I don’t remember my lectures and the time spent in the classroom, but I have cherished every moment for Aarohi’. Till now, it was only about listening to those legends, many of my first year batch-mates will agree, sooner or later, it’ll be time to be one of them. But then, Picture abhi baaki hain mere dost. It is just the beginning of a wonderful journey, which I’ll cherish my lifetime. Waiting for Aarohi 2012. If it’s going to be the end of the world, I will be proud I lived long enough for Aarohi! Aarohi 2012-Alive and Rocking… Though currently ZERO, after 7 semesters from now, I’ll be 100% Aarohian. Dil Se.

A fan of the legend ‘Aarohi’

“What does it mean to die when you can live until the end of the world?”

Alive and rocking! Yeah, that’s the theme of Aarohi 2012, and Team Aarohi is proud to announce the 24th edition of the cultural fiesta to be held from 22nd to 26th February in V.N.I.T., Nagpur. This time, with an awesome website thanks to the Creative Team Aarohi ©, and all the super cool posters and rocking T shirt design, the enthusiasm for Aarohi keeps growing.

It’s not just a cultural fest, it is THE cultural fest for Central India as it sets the standards for others in the region to follow. This is an open invitation to all of you interested to be a part of this magnanimous event.

Come February, all roads in Nagpur will lead to V.N.I.T. and our gates will be open for all the participants. Check out the website www.aarohiworld.com for more details. Choose your events according to your areas of interest. There’s plenty of stuff for everyone.

There isn’t a single dull moment for the Singers (Swarmanzar), Dancers (A La Danse), Actors (Dramatics), College studs (Cynosure – The Personality Contest), Filmmakers (Film Festival), Artists (Iridescence – For the gifted and multi-faceted personalities), Rockstars (Purple Haze – The Band Contest), and for those who just want to let their hair down and enjoy, we have Antakshari, Informals, Pentathlon, Movie-theatre and lots and lots of fun…

Even the speakers have a chance to assert their opinions in The Big Fight (Debate), Creative Writing competitions. Charity begins at home, and so we also have our Cultural Nite, the proceeds of which go to Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, a registered non-profit organization. Vinod Rathod (of ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Munna Bhai’ fame) is going to lead his team and make 22nd February, Wednesday night, a night to remember. The Pro Show is also going to be an evening filled with head banging music and the details are going to be out soon.

As I said in my previous article for Aarohi 2011, personally, my batch has now reached the “le” and the “gen”… And the journey has been amazing. The sense of satisfaction of a job well done, is evident in the seniors. The First Years are just now embarking on a journey following the trail of many able people who have left bread crumbs for us in the path. Enough said about Aarohi, it’s not something you can read about and understand, it’s something which you have to experience firsthand…

So I don’t know whether the world ends in 2012, or the Mayans just ran out of space on the rock while making their calendar.

All I can say about Aarohi is, (again!), “It’s going to be LEGEN…. Wait for it!”

Well, people at VNIT, as well as from other colleges in an around just proved to one and all that having a good time at Aarohi does not require any kind of special talent. People enjoyed themselves at the informals zone perhaps even more than they enjoyed themselves in the main events during the day. Human fuusball continued to be a major attraction, but even more people were attracted to the new events, viz. 60 seconds and Wahi pe Nigahen Wahi pe Nishana. It was really surprising to a lot of people as to how knocking down a bunch of glasses with a tennis ball can bring so much fun to people (But then we remembered that we were offering really cool gift vouchers and that the glasses belonged to Tanmay Tapase). Things became a lot more exciting with the introduction of Zorbing. People really enjoyed getting stuffed inside big, white balls and banging headlong into each other. As we progressed towards dust, the crowd increased beyond proportion, and even the paintball arena saw a lot of activity and commotion.

The organizers of the events had as much fun as the players themselves. There was a particular stretch in the afternoon where all the people seemed to be tired and leaving the zone, the loudmouths on the microphone suddenly changed the mood of things with impromptu ‘tongue twister’ and ‘worst singer’ contests. Even in the evening, they were busy pulling each other’s legs, and some even turned babysitters. Overall, people at Aarohi never had so much fun.

Highlights of the day:

1. Wahi Pe Nigahen Wahi pe Nishana- A hit beyond all expectations

2. A team of 8-year olds who called themselves the dragons and beat almost every collegiate team they played fuusball against, mocking one and all even on the microphone.

3. The worst singer event. Kudos to people for inventing such cruel ways of singing.

4. A couple of 3-year old girls who were just led to the microphone and kept singing Sheila Ki Jawani after every 2 minutes for maore than an hour.

5. A(a)rohi babysitting services.

The stage was set. The lights in place. The auditorium packed. And then emerged the moves. Then there was was huge roar. Thats how A La Danse (sponsered by Canara Bank) kicked off. The dance committee headlined the show with their ease and grace. Meenal and Aneesh did steal our hearts away.

All the 3 categories (solo, group and UV light) started one after another, keeping the audience glued to their seats. We witnessed some extraordinary dance styles namely lyrical hip hop, classical, contemporary etc. which were a feast for our eyes. The contestants were brilliant with their expressions, moves and rhythm. The dances were high on energy, style and glamour. In the group dance category Pravesh Rangani and group inculcated an element of surprise in their performance. Beautifully clad in traditional Bharatnatyam costume; they danced to the tunes of’ Hips don’t lie’ by Shakira. And surely their hips didn’t lie. The group intrigued the audiences and judges alike. They were declared invincible after that performance.

The UV light dance did create a lot of fantasy on stage. The eerie music, the loud shrills and lots of formations did create a lot of buzz. It was a very tough task for the panel of judges to choose the winner out of 3 groups though. Lets be there at valedictory to see who gets the best mover in the town award. Fingers crossed.

And the curtain is raised…… Team Aarohi has pulled up the curtains n the stage is now set for Aarohi 2011.. Cultural Night – ‘K for Kishore’ by Sumeet and Amit Kumar took place yesterday. The mood for the festival is now set and yes…you couldn’t have asked for a curtain raiser better than this!!

The auditorium witnessed a huge crowd of ardent Kishore Kumar lovers who turned up in large numbers to witness an event filled with grandeur. And when it’s team Aarohi at the giver’s end, the takers are never ever disappointed. Sumeet n Amit Kumar took the audience down the memory lane and made them nostalgic by making the crowd remember their father – Kishore Kumar.. And subsequently.. the songs took over the mood that was created as though woven together to match the nostalgia which was slowly gripping everyone in the crowd. While Amit Kumar set the emotions right by singing the melodious n soothing songs of Kishore Da.. Sumeet Kumar made the masses tap their feet to songs like — Bachna Ae Haseeno….

The spectators had their eyes glued to the extravaganza throughout and this left Team Aarohi feeling much fuller n content. The Duo bid adieu to their audience by singing — Chalte…. Chalte… Mere yeh geet yaad rakhna.. Kabhi Alvida na kehna…. Kabhi alvida na kehna.. leaving behind the memories which were relived in this Kishore Kumar night. Team Aarohi will cherish the moments they lived in this day for all their life and carry forward the reminiscence of the legend — Kishore Kumar.

As it is said,”It is better to debate a question before settling it, rather than settling a question with out debating it.” The unprecedented decision to conduct the Big Fight in ECE lawns, yielded rich dividends. The ECE lawns witnessed much more than the flutter and crumble of the dry leaves of the teak trees. Last nights’ showers did not dampen the spirits of the organisers. The open air arena was certainly resonated with the participants open minded approach to acknowledge new perceptions, dimensions and issues.

With 14 participants in fray, the event did turn out be great. The extempore topics (only 1 minute to blabber out some sense) included ‘Dabangg’, “A lot can happen over coffee, ‘ And this too shall pass’, ‘The Axe effect’ which spiced the debate; were lauded by the audience. Shreevallabh (High on rhetoric and low on substance) was a major entertainer for the participants and audience alike.

However the group discussion wavered, swayed and then resumed its direction(after the mindful intervention of the host). This was one major disappointment. The topics for one on one were thought provoking and intensely debatable. The enthusiasm of the organisers and participants uped the ante. Eventually Raj Dave, with his clear ideas and conviction to defend them emerged the winner. However, the consistency and clarity of Jaideep (2nd-position) while the fluency of Vikram (3rd position) need appreciation. Kudos to the organisers for inducing some life into ‘The Big Fight’ by breaking the monotony of the format of previous years. Great work! Hoping that intellect and substance always find an appropriate forum like this one.

This year’s Aarohi core committee seems to be determined to dedicate the fest to pure ‘lukkhagiri’ as the number of informals this year is actually larger than the number of main events. With that being said, the first round of informals began this evening. The initial phase made some people feel what something which almost every informal event in-charge at Aarohi must have felt, with nobody turning up for such carefully planned games. But somehow, with God’s grace (and some big-time loud-mouthing on an otherwise harmless-looking microphone), people starting flocking the informals zone.

Human fuusball was a huge hit, with the excited participants playing multiple games at stretch (There was this group of first years who just wouldn’t leave the arena, and ended up playing 6 games at a stretch. And just to reinstate the fact that gourmands abound at our college, people registered for the panipuri and jalebi eating events to such an extent that the number of people outside the audi was equal to the number of people inside. Even though only five of the 33 planned informals were active today, the organizers got a clear idea of what the next couple of days are going to go like. The only thing that could distract the crowd was a screening of Sholay (Dunno who thought of that, but it was a brilliant idea), which put an end to the annoyingly loud announcements, but still the fuusball and panipuri stalls witnessed a registration overflow. So salute to each and every lukkha in a around VNIT, and kudos to the organisers for letting them have a day of their own.

After an exciting and a well organised cycle rally, Aarohi organisers were again back to some more serious work. Cynosure personal interviews began with enthusiastic selected participants thronging the Chemical department in large numbers.

And then began the mood swings of the panelists (Kausthub, Apaar, Baru, Prerana, Rashmi, Tapase, Yaseer, Atram, Utsav and few more). The mixed bag of participants aroused emotions ranging from amusement to awe. The panelist were baffled and bemused by some of the answers in the form. Everyone had the chance to take a dig at the participants. The wit of the panelists was at its best with some participants who had the audacity to project the best of their dumbness.

Some of the participants were really good with their ideas, confidence level and clarity of thoughts. We can certainly expect a lot more substance in Cynosure this time around. With the panelist having so much fun interviewing the participants, we can be rest assured a lot more fun, panache and attitude in the final round this time round. Be there to witness the Cynosure finals on 24th February, 6:00 pm.
